The primary focus for this committee
is offering several scholarships to deserving students through
the Chamber as a way of “Promoting the Advancement of
Education to Career”.
Five college scholarships are currently available to high school
seniors throughout Christian County. These scholarships are
being offered by five local colleges that have graciously agreed
to fund scholarships to high school seniors who have maintained
a “C” average and meet the entrance requirements
of the college to which they are applying .
The colleges and the awards they are offering are as follows:
Springfield College in Illinois - Half tuition for freshman and sophomore years of an associate's degree program.
Benedictine
University — Half tuition for junior and senior years of a bachelor's degree program.
Lincoln Land Community College — Tuition and fees for two semesters.
Richland Community College — Tuition for two semesters.
University of Illinois at Springfield — Tuition for two semesters.
Applicants may apply for only one award and those who reach
the final phase of selection will be interviewed by a panel
of judges.
Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce office, located
at 108 West Market Street in Taylorville.
The application/instruction form is available from all Christian
County high school guidance counselors, the Greater Taylorville
Chamber of Commerce office, by calling Linda Smith at 287-7246,
or by clicking here.
